Learning Without (Country) Borders
EU Project Promotes Knowledge Exchange Between Biberach and Irish Woodworking Professionals
Since EU Member States committed to drastically reducing energy consumption by 2020, this measure has taken priority in Ireland as well.
However, as energy-efficient construction has not been a major focus in Ireland in the past, the engineer Maroun Tabbal from Galway finds further training at the Holzbau competence center fascinating.
"What particularly impresses me is how much my German colleagues are willing to share their knowledge. This is the best way to learn from one another," he says.
Switzerland and Austria have had a more intensive and longer tradition of wooden construction than Germany. Many specialized companies develop materials specifically tailored for passive houses to attain optimal energy efficiency.
Energy-Efficient Construction:
And there is a lot to learn here! The timber construction sector in Biberach impresses not only with its theoretical knowledge but especially with its practical solutions.
In Ireland, wooden construction is not a big topic, noted not only by Maroun Tabbal but also by project leader Achim Dangel. "Here, wood construction is the frontrunner when it comes to energy- efficient building. And that's an advantage for us."
Timothy Healy (Head of the Training Institute for Architectural Professionals in Galway) explains that this exchange is beneficial for all parties, as it emphasizes confronting challenges from changing market and climate conditions.
Employing lower-carbon methods theoretically and practically prepares the group for future job applications in this transitioning construction era where Eco demands are growing worldwide.
The quality of work improves significantly when integrated directly within professional environments, says Achim Dangel.
Maroun Tabbal adds, "When you see it in action, you understand the importance of functional solutions."
Practical workshops show how theory is directly implemented in practice, taking key lessons back to their respective countries.
